The drug increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin and decreases the amount of sugar the liver produces. It is a long-acting, extended-release version of Metformin which is made by several manufacturers.
Metformin er Dosage: Metformin ER is available in tablet form in a variety of doses (500 mg, 850 mg, and 1,000 mg). The dose of metformin er will vary depending on a number of factors. For both youths and adults, starting dose is usually 500mg twice a day of the regular version or once a day, and adults also have the option of starting with the ER version at 750mg once a day. The dose is gradually increased if needed.
It is advised to take metformin er with food to reduce stomach upset. It must be taken as prescribed and should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the drug in your blood. It should be swallowed whole and should not be broken or crushed. It can potentially interact with a number of medicines.
